Medway Air Ambulance Announces New Medical Director

Medway Air Ambulance announces that Dr. Mark Merlin has assumed the position of Medical Director, where he will be responsible for medical management of all patients, protocol review, online medical control, and training for all medical personnel. In this role he will provide medical necessity reviews and coordinate care for the transportation of patients on Medway’s fleet of fixed wing air ambulances, in conjunction with the Medical Directors of the discharging and receiving medical facilities, insurance companies, and the patient and their family.

Dr. Merlin comes to Medway with more than 20 years’ experience as a healthcare provider and educator. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP). He currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Emergency Medicine and is the Emergency Medical Services Fellowship Director at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center/RWJBarnabas Health System in New Jersey. Dr Merlin also serves as the Chief Medical Officer and System Medical Director for MONOC EMS the largest EMS system in New Jersey.

Dr. Merlin is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, and has published over 100 articles, abstracts and chapters for publications in Emergency Medicine, Emergency Service and Disaster Response.

Medway Air Ambulance owns and operates its own fleet of Learjets for critical care adult, pediatric, and neonatal transport across the globe. Medical transport teams are tailored to meet the specific needs of the patient. Flights are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Medway has earned accreditations from Eurami and ARGUS International. The company works with all major insurance carriers.

You alleviated all of my concerns

I just wanted to thank you for making all the arrangements for my mom to come home to me today. I truly appreciate how professional you were in dealing with this. You alleviated all of my concerns, and brought my mom home safely. The team on the flight was fantastic, as were the paramedics who transported her. I will never forget this experience, and am truly grateful to you for making this as simple as possible for me.

I was amazed at how smoothly it went

My husband had a heart attack while we were vacationing. At the hospital they told us he needed by-pass surgery. We wanted to have it done closer to home. Medway worked with the hospital’s discharge staff, arranged for the ambulance to meet us on arrival and got him pre-admitted for surgery. I was amazed at how smoothly it went. Thanks Medway!

Thankful that your Guardian Angels were there

I want to thank the team from Medway Air Ambulance who airlifted me from San Jose, Costa Rica to Yale New Haven Hospital last week. I had fractured my pelvis in an ATV accident. The medical team of Donna (paramedic) and Steve (RN) were wonderful. I was sorry I had to use the care but I am thankful that your Guardian Angels were there. No one should be without this vital assistance in a time of need. I plan to spread the word. I thank you again. Also, if possible, could you give Donna and Steve my thanks as well. I should make a full recovery and look forward to a good 2012; and I wish you a Happy New Year.
